Falkplatz 1, 10437 Berlin
Opened in 1997 as part of Berlin’s bid to host the 2000 Olympic Games, the Max-Schmeling Halle is a multifunctional indoor arena located in the fashionable Berlin district of Prenzlauer Berg. A high-tech venue, the entire north facade is glazed and an extensive solar power system covering 1,749 m² of roof area generates enough electricity annually to power around 110 households. The 7,500-seat hall was designed as a pure boxing venue and so named after the German former heavyweight world champion, Max Schmeling, but an 18-metre ceiling height also makes it an ideal stage for volleyball. It has been the home of the serial Bundesliga champions Berlin Recycling Volleys since 2011 and will host the volleyball action at the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games.
